Breast cancer is at the top in the list of women diseases that cause death in developed and the developing countries. In the developed countries the number of breast cancer victims is increasing rapidly due to the various reasons such as adoption of western life style, increased urbanization and increased life expectancy. Breast cancer risk can be reduced by taking certain precautionary measures; however these measures are not useful in most of the cases in lower and middle classes where breast cancer is diagnosed at late stage.

Early Detection Strategies

There are some strategies recommended to the women of lower and middle class in order to catch the cancer at initial stage.

Women need to be breast aware for catching the cancer at initial stage because breast aware women can understand the breast structure and can diagnose easily if any abnormal change takes place in the breasts at any stage of life.
It is essential for women to stay in touch with the breasts regularly so they are advised to perform regular breast exam once a month so that abnormal changes may come into the observation as they take place.
Women should get adequate information about the signs and symptoms of the breast cancer so that it becomes easier for them to notice the symptoms and signs of the cancer.
Unusual breast changes are common in women and these abnormal changes can be the breast cancer symptoms so they should not be overlooked in any case because late detection of breast cancer has very less survival chances.
Women should know how their breasts look and fell normally and what is the normal features of the breasts like the size, shape, skin type, color of the skin, texture of the skin because if a woman knows what is normal for her or what is abnormal she can take care of her breasts in a better way.

A woman who performs regular breast exam can help other women as well because she knows which technique is useful and beneficial for women to observe the abnormal changes and what time is the best to perform breast exam as many normal changes take place in breasts as well at different stages of life.

It is normal for the breast size to be changed at different stages of life such as after puberty the size increases similarly before periods it is normal for the breast size to increase. The size of breast changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding as well when the milk starts producing in the lobules for the infants. Unusual breast changes not necessarily take place due to the breast cancer sometimes it is possible that these changes take place due to any other reason like infection or any other breast abnormality.

Breast screening is advised to women for early detection of the breast cancer in their old age and women in their old age are at higher risk to be affected by the breast cancer so they should attend regular sessions of screening.
