How to Look Hot When the Weather is Cold

by Barry McDonald

When the temperatures plummet, it can be tempting to throw fashion caution to the wind and just dress in anything that will keep the cold at bay. But while those granddad sweaters and cosy tracksuit bottoms may be fine for lounging around the house in front of the telly on a cold winter’s evening, they just won’t cut it when it comes to actually stepping out onto the street.

Unless you want to look like you’ve flipped the fashion ‘off’ switch and have no regard for such niceties as actually looking half decent, you will want to invest a little time, care and yep, even a little money, into your winter wardrobe.
For ladies, the key components to a hot winter look are boots, coat and accessories. Autumn staples such as skirts and dresses can be given a cold weather makeover with the addition of tights, knee high boots (flat for casual wear or heeled for work, these never go out of style) a sleek, well fitting coat and some classy extras.

To really look chic when it’s cold outside, it is well worth putting Cashmere items on your winter wardrobe wish list. Not only is cashmere the softest of materials to wear, it also oozes style and taste. Cashmere essentials for image conscious women include scarves and gloves, and for those who can carry off hats with style, a cashmere beret is a whole lot more stylish than a woolly beanie hat.
Cashmere has been synonymous with luxury winter wear for as long as ladies have been dressing to impress rather than just to keep themselves decent in public, and luxury cashmere sellers continue to do good business even as the world tightens its belt in the wake of the global financial crisis.

Everybody deserves a little luxury, surely, and with a few economising measures elsewhere even those on the tightest of budgets can stretch to a cashmere item or two. If all else fails, you may find it pays dividends to be a very very good girl all year, and drop a few hints to Santa Claus - who knows, he may pop a few cashmere goodies in your Christmas stocking.
