Why Consider Helicopter Flight School?
by
Allison Noris
Why consider helicopter flight school? The first and primary reason given by many people to take helicopter training is that flying a helicopter is considered to be the toughest kind of flying there's found anywhere outside of being a test pilot or an astronaut.
Another reason given would be that the specialized helicopter flying is exactly what they are most interested in. You are able to fly search and rescue, fire fighting, medical life flight flying and several other of the most highly respected kinds of flying available.
What does helicopter pilot training charge? The basic answer is that it will set you back between $38,000 and $50,000. The spread is due to what the individual parts of the training cost and what each individual may need to be able to complete the training.
To get a simple helicopter pilot's license requires a ground school at $30 to $40 an hour. It also requires at least 30 hours of duel control flight training with a licensed instructor which costs about $200 an hour. Additionally, you will need 10 of solo flights for around $150 to $175 an hour. To be able to get paid to fly as a pilot you will need 200 total hours with 50 to 100 of those hours using a flight instructor at $200 an hour and a minimum of 100 pic (pilot in command) flight hours at about $175 an hour.
How long does helicopter pilot training take? A difficult question to answer. If you possess the time for you to dedicate to it you can complete the training in 1to 2 years. (that's the time and money). This is if you can complete the ground school and spend 2 hours a week flying.
It will take most people longer than 2 years to get through the training though. It is because most will require a lot more than the minimum numbers of instructor included flight training. This is particularly true if you haven't any kind of flying experience. If you have a fixed wing pilot's license and flying experience, the change over to helicopter piloting will be a bit easier.
Why become a helicopter pilot flight instructor? To be able to get yourself a job as a helicopter pilot most places will require you to have between 5,000 and 10,000 of flight hours. Most places will lean more to the 10,000 hours which is hard to have all on your own.
All of the hours in helicopter pilot training will count but that will still put you with a lot of hours to get logged. By being a helicopter pilot flight instructor you'll be receiving payment to fly and build the flight hours simultaneously. When you get qualified to get your rotor-craft pilot's license you will simply need to take one additional written test and one additional flight test to obtain your flight instructors license and once you get that you can start working as an instructor immediately.
There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a
