Blogging has become a major passion for me in my life and I spend about 5-10 hours a week discussing with my communities online. Since I've started engaging on other people's blogs, probably about 6 years ago, I have noticed there is a very steady trend in blogging.
Thousands of people try to blog and give up too soon.
It's not that these people don't have the knowledge or insight to provide great content for their blogs. Thousands of highly skilled and technical individuals fail at blogging all the time, they just never get the amount of traffic needed to see some financial success. This success could be attracting visitors to your small business or consulting firm, or just receiving some extra passive income each month from Google AdSense or CPA networks.
The fact is, 95% of bloggers fail because they give up too early AND do not have SEO integrated into their blog from the start.
The whole focus on blogging is to put out a lot of quality and useful information in the way of posts and pages for the search engine to index and rank for certain keyword terms and phrases.
This takes some time, and if your website is not properly setup for search engine optimization than it will take a lot longer to get recognized, indexed, and ranked by Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
So what are the best tips for a starting blogger on SEO integration?
- Keyword Research - you know what subjects you want to blog on, now check Google's keyword tool and find all the terms/phrases that have high search volumes and make sure to incorporate these into your Titles, Descriptions and Keyword tags in your content.
- Targeted Content - write posts/pages on the keywords you see with lots of traffic, Google will recognize this and you'll start getting rankings that will pass on traffic.
- Do not spam! Keep things natural and don't duplicate tags and such. Google wants to see a lot of quality content.
- Add a sitemap - this greatly increases the time that Google can find and index all your URL structures (pages/posts). Insert the sitemap to your footer for best results and make it easy for search bots to find.
- Consistency - keep updating, it can take 3-6 months of content writing to start seeing traffic pour in, but I promise that once your a year or more old, the traffic starts growing exponentially.
