Earlier this week I watched local mayoral candidates in a televised debate. I was stunned as all four candidates blatantly ignored the questions posed by the moderators and the audience, choosing instead to smile vapidly at the camera as they spouted their "I have done blah blah, I will do blah blah" to the live audience. The next day I saw news footage of a town meeting held by a Democrat senator, one who had berated conservative politicians for encouraging sick people to "die quickly." When one of his constituents pointed out the quote had been made by a Democrat governor, and asked why he erroneously attributed the quote to his opponents, the senator skirted the question by saying he was not there to discuss politics--he was there to discuss health care.
Someone in these two instances is pretty stupid. Is it the politicians, or is it we the people?
These days it does not seem to matter to which political party you belong. Corruption, deception, theft, bribery, and lack of concern for the American people seem to be the required character traits of our elected officials. People are so desperate to be elected, or remain so, that they will sign up under one party only to switch affiliations later. We have RINOs and DINOs, and add in a number of winos while you are at it. (You can now cross Ted Kennedy off that last list.) It is no wonder the American people are so disillusioned by their representatives in particular, and the political process in general.
After years of listening to the political drivel and watching our government sacrifice the United States on the altar of self-preservation, you would think something would change. Yet it does not. If anything, things appear to be growing worse. Each election cycle it seems the candidates who promised to do this or not to do that lose their memories immediately after winning their respective races. At some point the cycle has to stop if we expect true and lasting change, for ourselves and for future generations.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a new outcome. We the people have been voting the same types of individuals into office for years, and expect that this time things will be different. If we as a nation do not care enough about our country to stop repeating our mistakes, we have only ourselves to blame. Along with the politicians, of course.

Good points Alf, but I think we're seeing the beginnings of people trying to let their elected officials know to shape up or they'll be shipped out!Respond to this comment

Alf,Enjoyed this. I'm new to this site and just posted my first blog "Time to Party?". It is very similar to this (mine is more wordy), but seems we have similar thoughts.Respond to this comment
